How can one define freedom? People in a certain region fought against alien invasion to preserve their way of life and we call this as freedom struggle. This is still can be observed in certain areas not to the extent of earlier times. However, in modern times given that societies are fairly stable one must ask oneself are we truly free?

On the surface, freedom can be termed as whatever one can do whenever and whatever one wants. Majority of the people often dwell in riches or owning expensive things, travelling, having beautiful partners, power or status through ambitions/goals, etc. However, if one dip deeper majority of such behaviour is driven by either social approval for higher status and/or ability to attract opposite mate. It is difficult for these people to even comprehend that the whole behaviour of their life depends on others approval. In a way they do not know themselves but rather is responsible for others. In other words they are exactly following a pattern of a slave.

In this sense Freedom comes as a very opposite of majority of our behaviour, so Freedom is responsibility to one own self rather than to others/things. Owning property, taking care of partners or children, gaining power, etc eventually curtail your freedom of speech or thought and in a way one has to be bound with external entities like government, race, society, etc. Owning too much property needs to have constant maintenance and taxes to government, having power one has to try maintain the influence and control others, etc. A free person generally owns very little property whether it's tangible or non-tangible however, mainly focus on freedom of speech, privacy and liberty.

It is this struggle that our forefathers fought to maintain for individual liberties and it must be a constant effort on individuals to achieve. Otherwise either one can be controlled by other groups or one own society which is not much difference.
