The Only Goal That Ever Mattered

Everyone has different aspirations: some aim to start a company, others wish to become athletes or celebrities, and some desire to be artists, among other goals. These ambitions are often focused on gaining influence, control, power, or a symbolic form of mating rights. Although there are positive aspects such as discipline, skill improvement, and providing comfort, these goals can lead to increased stress, a guilt-free conscience, indirectly exploiting labor or resources from others, and a pursuit of hedonistic or material possessions.

However, one goal surpasses all others and should be prioritised by everyone which is living a long life naturally. Why is this more important than other goals? Consider the benefits:

  • Better health - Achieving a long life requires attention to diet, exercise, and rest, which are essential for good health.

  • Fasting - For centuries, fasting has been known to enhance health and extend life expectancy by reducing metabolism, which is why some animals fast for extended periods and live longer.

  • Managing stress - Pursuing other goals often leads to significant stress for short-term pleasures. To live a long life, stress must be managed, as it significantly reduces life expectancy.

  • Living in the present - We often dwell on the past or worry about the future, causing misery. By focusing on the present, we can enrich our experiences and improve memory, concentration, and skill levels, while relieving mental pain. Living in the present in the actual sense is called Meditation. This involves fully engaging in activities like sports or art, allowing us to forget other life aspects and commit to the moment. Regular practice enhances our skills and contributes to longevity.

  • Having conscience - Ambitions can make us less empathetic to society. For instance, a company owner mostly prioritise personal wealth over fair compensation for employees, losing the sense of guilt for wrongdoing. This materialistic mindset can lead to societal distrust and economic or moral decline, shortening life spans. Fairness leads to better employee performance and goodwill, resulting in a more fulfilling life.

  • Discipline - Striving for a long life fosters discipline and focus.

I believe these elements are far more significant thus making living a long life the only goal that truly matters.
